The School of Business of Soochow University was formerly known as the Department of Finance and Economics, which was established in 1982 when the Suzhou Finance School was incorporated into Soochow University, and was renamed the School of Finance and Economics of Soochow University, the earliest second-level School of Soochow University, after the approval of the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and the investment and construction of the Department of Finance of Jiangsu Province in June 1985, and was renamed the School of Business of Soochow University in 2002, and signed a joint venture agreement with Soochow Securities Co. In February 2022, the Department of Finance of Jiangsu Province, the Department of Education of Jiangsu Province and Soochow University signed a tripartite agreement to jointly build a high-level business school with special characteristics, which ushered in a new period of historical opportunity for the development of the School.
The School consists of five departments: Department of Financial Technology, Department of Digital Finance and Taxation, Department of Digital Economy and Trade, Department of Intelligent Accounting, and Department of Intelligent Business and Management; and provincial research institutes, such as Intelligent Supply Chain Research Centre, Jiangsu Modern Finance Research Base, and Soochow University Institute of Free Trade Zone. There are two postdoctoral mobile stations (Applied Economics, Business Administration), two authorised doctoraldegreepointsoffirstdiscipline (Applied Economics, Business Administration) and five professional master's degree points (Master of Business Administration, Master of Accounting, Master of Finance, Master of Taxation, Master of International Business). The School has five undergraduate majors: Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting/Accounting (Dual Bachelor's Degree in Accounting + Artificial Intelligence), Finance (Dual Bachelor's Degree in Finance+Computer)/ Finance (Chinese-foreign Cooperative Education). The major of Business Administration is a national first-class undergraduate major construction point, the major of Finance is a brand major of Jiangsu Province,and the major of Accounting is a characteristic major of Jiangsu Province.
There are 169 teaching staff, including 120 full-time teachers, of which 27 are professors and 52 are associate professors. There are 1 Changjiang Scholars Distinguished Professor, 2 Changjiang Scholars Chair Professors, 1 ‘Changjiang Scholars Award Scheme’ young scholar, 2 National Natural Science Foundation of China Outstanding Youth Fund recipients, 2 Ministry of Education New Century Outstanding Talents, 2 Ministry of Finance Accounting Academic High-end Talents, 2 Jiangsu Zijin Cultural Talents, 3 Jiangsu Province Distinguished Professors, 1 Jiangsu Province Social Sciences Talent, 1 Jiangsu Province Social Sciences Excellent Young Person. There are 3 professors in Jiangsu Province, 1 Social Science Talent in Jiangsu Province, 1 Excellent Youth inJiangsuProvince, 4 cultivation objects of Jiangsu Province 333 Project, 8 cultivation objects of Jiangsu Province ‘Blue and Blue Project’, 2 Dual - Creation Talents in Jiangsu Province, and 9 Dual-Creation PhD Talents in Jiangsu Province. At present, there are more than 1400 full-time undergraduates, more than 80 minor students, and more than 1000 doctoral and master degree students.
The School has been awarded the honourable titles of ‘Civilized Unit of Jiangsu Province’ and ‘Civilized Unit of Suzhou City’. The School is well-equipped with teaching equipment, and has built a first-class finance and economics teaching and office building - Finance and Economics Science Hall, which is equipped with modern teaching facilities and equipments such as Economics and Management Experiment Centre (Finance Simulation Laboratory, E-commerce Simulation Laboratory, Enterprise Operation and Management Simulation Laboratory, Foreign Trade Documentation Simulation Laboratory and Accounting Simulation Laboratory), Data Room and Academic Lecture Theatre. The building is equipped with modern teaching facilities and equipments. There is also a well-equipped multimedia teaching system in the Finance and Economics Teaching Building.
The School attaches great importance to academic research and external exchanges and development. It has cooperated with the Victoria University of Canada, Laurentian University of Canada, University of Furtwangen of Germany, Alliance Française de Commerce, University of Canberra of Australia, Deakin University of Australia and Soochow University of Taiwan to cultivate talents. The School has held many international and national academic conferences, and in recent years, it has undertaken more than 690 scientific research projects at national, provincial and municipal levels, written and published more than 250 monographs, published more than 1,300 academic papers, won more than 180 awards for scientific research achievements, and nearly 300 decision-making and consulting achievements.
Taking advantage of the School's disciplinary advantages, talent advantages and scientific research advantages, it actively serves local governments and enterprises. It carries out training work for government departments at all levels inside and outside the province, and trains middle and senior managers for various enterprises. More than ten cadre training bases, scientific research bases and postgraduate workstations have been established.
Based on the tenet of education for economic construction and the goal of cultivating talents for local economic construction and development, the Business School of Soochow University has implemented multi-level and multi-channel education, cultivate large number of economic and management talents for the country, made great contributions to the economic construction and social development of the whole country, especially that of Jiangsu Province, and won a good reputation in the society. In the journey of the 21st century, Soochow University Business School will effectively implement the national strategy of ‘developing the country through science and education’, and make full use of the unique humanities and geographic advantages of the ancient city of Suzhou and the advantages of its own schooling conditions to cultivate more high-quality economic management and scientific research talents.
